Open an STL or OBJ mesh in an interactive browser viewer. Your file is parsed on your device and never leaves your device.
View an STL file without uploading it
An STL viewer helps you inspect a triangulated surface without first importing it into a desktop CAD or slicing application. StlFixTool's free viewer reads supported STL and OBJ mesh data directly in the browser. Your file never leaves your device: the viewer does not upload it to StlFixTool's conversion service.
Drop a file into the viewer or choose it from your device. Once loaded, orbit to inspect the shape from different sides, zoom to examine detail, and pan to reposition the model. Reset view returns the camera to a useful framing. Use the grid to understand orientation and scale visually, and the wireframe option to see the triangle structure rather than only the shaded surface.
Mesh measurements in context
The viewer can show the number of triangles, the model's bounding dimensions, estimated volume, and surface area. Dimensions describe the extent of the loaded mesh along its axes. For an STL, the file generally does not carry a dependable unit declaration, so the viewer presents geometry using millimetres as the working convention; verify scale in the application where the model was created.
Volume is meaningful only when the surface forms a suitable closed mesh and its orientation is consistent. Open boundaries, self-intersections, or unusual geometry can make volume unavailable or misleading. Surface area and triangle count describe the mesh representation, not the quality of the design or suitability for printing.
Use the screenshot control to save the current view as a PNG for review or communication. The image is a visual snapshot and does not contain editable geometry or replace the original mesh file.
When the STL viewer is useful
Use the viewer to quickly check that a file contains the intended object, look for gross omissions, compare overall shape, and see whether a model's facets are coarse or dense. It can be helpful before sending a mesh to a colleague or before opening a slicer. It is a lightweight inspection step rather than a CAD authoring or manufacturing verification system.
The viewer accepts OBJ as well as STL, which can be useful when a mesh workflow supplies either format. OBJ may refer to external material or texture files; viewing geometry does not guarantee that related files are available or that every material property will appear. StlFixTool focuses on the model mesh.
If a mesh looks wrong
A model that appears missing, inverted, or oddly shaded may have invalid faces, inconsistent normals, an unexpected scale, or geometry located away from its origin. First reset the camera, inspect the wireframe, and check the dimensions. If the file still appears defective, the issue may be in the mesh rather than the camera view.
For common STL defects, use the STL Repair tool to create a separate repaired output and compare it with the source. Repair is a paid full-quality download after free preview and can change geometry. The STL viewer itself remains a local browser tool: it does not modify or send the original file.
Privacy and compatibility
The STL Viewer runs client-side. Mesh parsing and display happen in your browser, and the selected file is not sent to StlFixTool. The browser must support the JavaScript features and graphics capabilities needed to display a 3D scene. A very large or complex mesh may use substantial memory or render slowly, depending on your device.
Keep your own copy of the source file. StlFixTool does not store the viewer input, and the viewer does not export a modified mesh. For conversions or file repair, visit the relevant conversion tool and upload only a supported file you have the right to use.
Frequently asked questions
Does my STL file get uploaded?
No. The STL Viewer parses STL and OBJ files in your browser; your file never leaves your device.
Can I view OBJ files too?
Yes, the viewer supports OBJ mesh files as well as STL. External material or texture references may not be present with the file.
Why are my STL dimensions in millimetres?
STL commonly has no reliable unit declaration. StlFixTool uses millimetres as the viewing convention; verify the intended scale in your source or destination software.
Is the reported volume always accurate?
No. Volume depends on the mesh forming a suitable closed, consistently oriented surface. Open or intersecting meshes may produce unavailable or misleading values.
Can I fix defects in the viewer?
The viewer is for inspection and does not edit the file. Use the STL Repair tool to inspect a separate repair result, then validate it in your own software.
