A browser preview for STEP and STP

STEP and STP files carry CAD exchange geometry that ordinary browser mesh viewers do not directly display. StlFixTool's STEP Viewer uploads the supported file to a server-side reader, converts its shape to a low-resolution triangle preview, and presents that preview in the interactive viewer. Unlike the STL Viewer, this tool does upload the file for processing.

Upload one STEP or STP file up to 50MB. After processing, rotate, pan, and zoom to inspect the general form. The preview is limited to at most 30,000 triangles and is intended for quick visual review. Fine edges, small features, and tight clearances may not be represented with the detail of a full CAD model.

Use the preview to inspect shape

A preview can help confirm that a STEP file contains geometry, that the major parts appear, and that the overall orientation and proportions look plausible. It is not a CAD viewer with editable faces or feature history. The preview represents the surface as triangles and should not be used as a substitute for dimensional inspection in a CAD application.

If the STEP model contains multiple solids, the mesh preview may show their surfaces together rather than retaining the original assembly structure. Use the original CAD software when you need part identities, assembly constraints, metadata, or accurate measurement of exact design surfaces.

Privacy and file retention

Because STEP parsing is performed on the server, the input file is transmitted to StlFixTool for processing. Unpaid job files are deleted within 60 minutes. The viewer offers the reduced preview only and does not expose a full-quality output download. Do not upload confidential or restricted design data unless you are authorized and comfortable with this handling.

Troubleshooting STEP previews

A preview can fail if the file is malformed, incomplete, too large, has no transferable geometry, or contains a shape the reader cannot process. Confirm that the selected file is a valid STEP exchange file rather than a different format renamed with a .step or .stp extension.

If the preview looks empty, reset the camera and inspect whether the model may be very small or offset. If the file still cannot be inspected, open it in a CAD application or create a fresh exchange export. A preview indicates only what the conversion pipeline could display; it is not a validation certificate. Also check whether the original design uses an assembly structure that requires inspection in its native application.
