Open a 3MF file locally in your browser and inspect its geometry, build items and approximate dimensions in millimetres. The model is not uploaded.
Open and inspect a local model
Choose a 3MF file or drop it into the viewer. The browser reads the archive on your device and displays the model in an interactive 3D scene. Drag to orbit, scroll to zoom, pan with a right-drag, and use the toolbar to reset the view, switch to wireframe, show or hide the grid, or save a screenshot.
The viewer reports triangle count, approximate bounds, build-item count and the model unit. These measurements help you check the scale and overall shape, but they do not replace a dimensional inspection in the CAD or manufacturing application that will use the file.
Unit scaling and missing units
3MF supports micron, millimetre, centimetre, inch, foot and metre units. The viewer scales supported values to millimetres before measuring and framing the scene, so displayed dimensions use a consistent unit. Build placements are applied to the rendered geometry rather than measuring only the unplaced mesh resources.
If the model omits its unit attribute, the viewer uses the 3MF specification default of millimetres and displays a notice. It does not silently describe the default as a declared unit. Unsupported unit values or malformed model data produce an error instead of a misleading measurement.
File privacy and browser limits
The viewer does not upload your model. It reads the file with browser APIs and passes the archive to the 3MF loader running in the page. ZIP entry count, expanded size, compression ratio, archive paths, file size and triangle count are bounded to reduce memory exhaustion and unsafe archive behavior.
Large or highly detailed models may exceed these limits or run slowly on a device with limited memory. The application may also need WebGL support for interactive rendering. If a file cannot be opened here, try a smaller export or use a trusted desktop 3MF-aware application.
Appearance support
3MF can include base colors, materials, textures and other appearance features. The browser loader renders supported information that is present in the model, but compatibility can vary for specialized extensions, profiles and texture arrangements. A successful geometry view does not prove that every color or manufacturing property was interpreted.
Use the viewer to inspect visible geometry and appearance, then confirm important manufacturing settings in the target slicer or CAD application. Keep your original 3MF file; a screenshot or triangle preview is not a substitute for the source package.
Convert after inspection
If you need a triangle-only file, use the 3MF to STL conversion. It applies placements, handles supported units and reports that STL cannot keep the 3MF's colors, materials, textures or assembly identity. Its independent quality check compares the saved STL triangles, dimensions and object groups with the saved input.
To package an STL as 3MF, the reverse converter creates one object and explicitly declares millimetres, while making clear that STL itself has no unit or appearance metadata. Read the 3MF file guide for a broader explanation of model resources, components, build items and units.
Navigation and useful measurements
Start with Reset view if the model opens outside the camera frame. Wireframe makes triangle density easier to inspect, while the grid provides visual context for orientation and scale. The screenshot button saves the current view as an image; it does not export or alter the model.
Dimensions are calculated from the rendered placed geometry and can include floating-point rounding. Volume and surface measurements are approximate and may not be meaningful for open, self-intersecting or inconsistently oriented surfaces. Use a mesh repair or CAD tool for a deeper structural check before production.
Frequently asked questions
Is my 3MF file uploaded?
No. The viewer reads and renders it in your browser. It is not sent to the conversion server.
Which 3MF units are supported?
Micron, millimetre, centimetre, inch, foot and metre values are scaled to millimetres for measurements.
What if the file has no unit attribute?
The viewer applies the specification default of millimetres and shows a notice that the unit was omitted.
Will all 3MF colors and textures display?
The browser loader displays supported appearance features, but specialized extensions and texture arrangements may not be fully supported.
Can I use the viewer to convert the model?
No. This page is a local viewer. Use the separate 3MF to STL or STL to 3MF converter for a verified download.
